Team Penske’s Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet who will start today’s race from pole position ended the morning warm up session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the front setting a fastest time of 01:10.2014s ending the morning just ahead of his team mate Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hum by Verizon Chevrolet.
It was a great session for Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon as he ended the session in third place as the fastest Honda car in the No.9 NTT DATA Honda.
Graham Rahal did a great job for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as he ended the session in fourth place just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti and reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud.
Speaking following the session this morning, Rahal said they made some small changes overnight and they will have their work cut out for them but they are looking forward to the challenge this afternoon.
Sebastien Bourdais was seventh just behind his countryman and just ahead of Helio Castroneves and Ryan Hunter Reay while Takuma Sato rounded out the top ten for Andretti Autosport. Juan Pablo Montoya ended the session in 11th place in the No.22 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevrolet ending the session just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Conor Daly and Charlie Kimball in 13th place.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda ended the session in 14th place just ahead of Alexander Rossi and Carlos Munoz in the No.14 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet.
Max Chilton was 17th for Chip Ganassi Racing in the No.8 Gallagher Honda just ahead of Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda.
Spencer Pigot was 19th for Ed Carpenter Racing just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Ed Jones and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Mikhail Aleshin. JR Hildebrand rounded out the order in 22nd place for Ed Carpenter Racing.
