Team Penske’s Will Power heads into the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg off the back of what many would consider one of his best season’s in the series.

Power who missed this race last year, bounced back to finish the season as runner up in the championship to team mate Simon Pagenaud.

Fast forward one year and the Australian is fully fit and fully on making the strongest start to his season as possible starting this weekend. Speaking to the Verizon IndyCar Series website ahead of this weekend’s opening race, Power commented by saying:

“I’m just looking forward to this season. “I’m just doing my normal thing heading into it. I haven’t really thought about it too much. It’s been a long time since then, a lot of races since then. I’m just working through the things I need to do in order to be quick there.”

Power who took the Verizon P1 Award here last season with a 01:02.450s commented in his pre-race notes by saying:

The best part of going to St. Pete this year is being physically ready to race. I wasn’t able to do that last year, which put us in a little hole that we eventually were able to dig out of, but I just didn’t get out of the gate well. That’s all behind us now and the Verizon Chevy team is ready to go. Our tests have gone very well and we’re all excited about getting started. As with most street courses, qualifying at St. Petersburg is super important and that’s an area we’ve done very well over the last several seasons. The results have been good for the most part, but it sure would be great to start the new year off on a high note. Like I said, though, I’m so happy about being in a better place physically to start the season.
