Chip Ganassi Racing’s Sara Price says she is excited to racing in the new Extreme E all electric SUV racing series that will launch in 2021. Speaking to Paddock Eye on Monday Price who is the first driver to be announced by the series said she was approached by Chip Ganassi Racing to contest the series.
Price said she is looking forward to travel and racing in new places. The Californian said that she is used to slippery conditions from time in off road racing and she believes this will be beneficial to her in the series.
Price began her racing career at the age of eight turning professional 16. When asked about the new Oddessy 21 SUV which will be used by the teams she said that she hasn’t seen the new car yet just images of it and she is hoping to test the car for the first time in next few months.
Speaking about the transition from off road racing to Extreme E she said that she adapts quickly. As for Extreme E, the race consists of a 16KM event known as the X Prix. Each event will feature eight teams with a male and female driver who will tackle each 8KM stretch. The races will take place over two days with qualifying determining the top four finishers who go into Semi Final 1.
The bottom four drivers will go into Semi final 2 or ‘The Crazy Race’. The crazy race will be a tooth-and-nail, all-or-nothing fight, with only the quickest team progressing into the Final, while the top three will make it through from Semi-Final 1. The winner of the Final – the fastest combination of team, drivers, car and engineers over the epic two-day battle – will then be crowned the X Prix Winner.
Speaking about the possibility of racing in IndyCar, Price said she is a racer at heart and would consider anything given the right opportunity.
Extreme E launches from January 23/24 2021 with Lac Rose, Dakar, Senegal. For more information visit https://www.extreme-e.com/en/index
