Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Fernando Alonso who is competing in the LeMans 24 Hours for the first time this weekend will start the race from pole position in the No.8 TS050 Hyrbid after his team mate Kazuki Nakajima set the fastest time in Thursday’s qualifying session.
Alonso believes however that although it is great that Toyota locked out the front row for the race that given the fact that it is 24 hours that the qualifying position will have no outcome on how the race pans out.
Speaking following qualifying the double Formula One champion commented by saying:
I’m definitely happy. We know that qualifying is not really important for a 24-hour race but I’m happy for TOYOTA to be one-two ahead of the long race in front of us. Kazuki did a very good lap. I’m happy for him to put the car on pole. It’s what we wanted to achieve. But we have earned nothing yet, this is just a preparation for the race. We have a long 24 hours in front of us but so far it has been a smooth preparation without any issues on the car. We are ready.
