Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Jimmie Johnson described his time in the McLaren simulator on Wednesday as ‘Quite an experience’.

The 43 year old who drives for Hendrick Motorsports was at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s Formula One season finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after which he will drive Fernando Alonso’s car at the Bahrain International Circuit on Monday.

Speaking following his day with the team he said:

“It’s amazing. To actually feel all of that downforce on the brakes and through the high-speed turns was like Christmas came early,”

Johnson tweeted some facts about a NASCAR to Fernando Alonso on Tuesday advising him on the car the Spaniard will test next week.

Johnson said:

I don’t think he’s used the clutch pedal on a race car for quite some time.

The American went on to say:

Our cars do go very fast so I think in Bahrain he’ll have plenty of straight line speed. The brakes won’t impress him. The overall ability to slide the car is something I think he’ll really enjoy.

Alonso will remain part of the McLaren family after Sunday’s Grand Prix as he will compete in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 next May with McLaren Racing.
