Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal in the No.15 United Rentals Honda ended the opening practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday with a speed of 223.449MPH ending the session just ahead of series points leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing with a speed of 223.420MPH.

Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in the iconic yellow submarine No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet was third fastest with a speed of 222.836MPH.

Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.86 Mission Foods Chevrolet had a great session in fourth place with a speed of 222.781MPH for Arrow McLaren SP ending the session just ahead of Dale Coyne Racing’s Ed Jones who had a speed of 222.700MPH.

Will Power in the No.12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet for Team Penske was sixth with a speed of 222.436MPH ending the session just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.45 Hy-Vee with a speed of 222.204MPH just ahead of Pato O’Ward with a 222.181MPH.

James Hinchcliffe in the No.29 Genesys Honda ended the session in ninth place as the fastest Andretti Autosport associated cars with a speed of 221.990MPH.

Helio Castroneves in the No.06 Meyer Shank Racing Honda rounded out the top ten with a speed of 221.861MPH just ahead of Conor Daly in the No.47 U.S Air Force Chevrolet with a speed of 221.681MPH. Sage Karam was 12th for Dreyer Reinbold Racing just ahead of Tony Kanaan in the No.48 American Legion Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

The Andretti Autosport trio of Ryan Hunter Reay, Colton Herta, and Marco Andretti was 14th, 15th, and 16th respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou was 17th with a 220.500MPH just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais in the No.14 ROKiT Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing with a speed of 220.371MPH. Marcus Ericsson and defending Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato rounded out the top twenty.

Rinus Veekay who took victory here last weekend was 21st just ahead of his team owner Ed Carpenter and Max Chilton whose air hose came loose during a run.

Simon Pagenaud was 24th just ahead of Arrow McLaren SP’s Felix Rosenqvist while Simona De Silvestro for Paretta Autosport was in 26th place with a speed of 218.484MPH on her return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Alexander Rossi was 27th in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda for Andretti Autosport. Pietro Fittipaldi was 28th for Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing ahead of Josef Newgarden and Dalton Kellett. Stefan Wilson was 31st just ahead of Jack Harvey who had an engine change this morning.
