Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have elected to skip Tuesday’s open Verizon IndyCar Series test at Gateway Motorsports Park in St Louis in order to give themselves extra time to prepare for the Month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Graham Rahal has endured a difficult start to the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season having scored just one top ten finish in the opening four races of the year.
At the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday night, Rahal started the race from 17th place and got up in the first corner accident involving Mikhail Aleshin, Marco Andretti, Sebastien Bourdais and Max Chilton.
Rahal who will be joined at the team by Verizon IndyCar Series veteran Oriol Servia for the Month of May took to Twitter on Monday to say:
Sad not to be testing
@GatewayMSP tomorrow, but our guys need time to focus on May, and get the #15 & #16 prepared. They deserve the time.
Rahal commented as he arrived in Indianapolis saying:
ITS MAY! Only fitting that flying in, Indianapolis is showing off. Suns out, tracks beautiful, the #GreatestCityinRacing is ready to rock it! Let’s go!!!!! #Rahal#15in17#ItsOurTime#SNSRacing#URRacing#PennGrade#FifthThirdBank
