Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal has had a fantastic 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season, with just four races remaining this year, Rahal is in sixth place in championship on 395 points just six behind Team Penske’s Will Power in fifth.
Rahal has scored three podium finishes this year, most recently, last time out in the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio sports car course where he finished in third place behind Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Will Power.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing are the only one car team in the Verizon IndyCar Series field this season however that has not been an issue for the most part this year with Graham Rahal having won both races in Detroit, completely dominating the weekend.
At times this season, Rahal has admitted that having a second car would have helped the team develop as they would be able to bounce ideas back and forth between the drivers and crews.
Paddock Eye understands that a deal is close that will see Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing running a second full-time car in the Verizon IndyCar Series in 2018.
Rahal joined his fellow Verizon IndyCar Series drivers at Gateway Motorsports Park to test the new track surface ahead of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline earlier the week in preparation for the race which takes place on August 26, Rahal will carry primary sponsorship from Fifth Third Bank for that race.
Rahal is just 58 points behind championship leader Josef Newgarden with four races to go and the season finale GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma worth double points, Rahal is still very much in the hunt for the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series championship.
