Officials from the World Rally Championship have warned organisers of Rally Sweden that the event must ensure that all stages must have snow after concerns were raised over the lack of snow banks during last weekend’s second round of the 2017 World Rally Championship.
FIA rally director Jarmo Mahonen has told organisers of the rally in Sweden to continue searching for snow stages to ensure the event remains on the calendar as a winter rally.
Speaking to Autosport, Mahonen said that the event in Sweden MUST remain as a winter rally and that they have stipulated that to the organisers. Clerk of the course in Sweden, Christina Lundqvist has admitted that they may in future look at the altitude of the event to ensure colder conditions allow for snow at the event.
The major snow fall this year happened in the stages across the border in Norway and Lundqvist admitted that the organisers are looking at alternative stages which in future could lead to more stages being held in Norway.
