The eagerly anticipated Rapid Response documentary about safety innovations in the NTT IndyCar Series is a fascinating insight into how the safety in the sport has evolved over the decades and led to improvements both to facilities at the track and also the cars themselves.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was the first racing circuit in America to introduce and onsite hospital and medical centre. The documentary is based on the book written by Stephen Olvery who played an instrumental role in improving safety in the series.
The film goes into great detail about the safety improvements in the series and there are in-depth interviews with former drivers, Rick Mears, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan and Mario Andretti.
The documentary also talks about the introduction of the HANS (Head and Neck Safety) device which is now used universally in racing series around the world.
