Red Bull Racing have confirmed that they will trial their canopy design during Free Practice One for the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit on Friday.
The Milton Keynes based outfit are the second team to trial a cockpit protection device as during winter testing Ferrari ran a ‘halo’ style device which had a central pillar coming down in front of the driver.
Red Bull’s design as you can see from the picture is far more advanced than Ferrari’s however some questions have been raised about the ‘Aero Screen’ and how visibility would be affected in the event of rain or oil getting on the screen.
The device has already been tested by Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat who gave it the thumbs up.
The idea is that both drivers will run one installation lap in Russia on Friday with the device on their cars in order to give the team some feedback.
