Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has followed the lead of the Formula One Sporting Director Ross Brawn by calling for the new ‘shark fin’ extension to the engine cover to be done away with.
Speaking as the second winter test got underway at the Barcelona Circuit Du Catalunya in Spain on Tuesday, Horner said:
The cars on track look great, they’re giving the drivers a harder time,
The only disappointment for me is that it would have been nice to get rid of these shark fins and moustache-like wings.
“Maybe there’s still time to address that, because it’s a shame it detracts slightly from the aesthetics of all the cars, and everybody would be affected in the same way.
Horner believes that when people look at the aesthetics of a Formula One car the fins should not be on the car and feels that from that point of view the fins should not be in on the cars.
During last weeks opening test in Barcelona, Mercedes were the only team to test without the fin on the opening day however by the second day they had started using the fin.
