Organizers of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring are offering one lucky fan attending the race to make history on Sunday by waving the chequered flag at the conclusion on the event.
The initiative came about following considerable negotiation between the promoters of the race, the FIA and race director Charlie Whiting.
Everyone with a ticket for the race this weekend is encouraged to enter the competition where they will take a photo waving a chequered flag in a booth set up at the Formula One Fan Village with the most enthusiastic and imaginative person being given the honor.
A spokesperson for the race commented by saying:
The people from FOM recognise we are not only promoting our event, but also the sport, so that is why they decided to give us the green light.
It has also been announced that on Thursday afternoon three fans will be given another first where they will be driven around the Red Bull Ring in the Safety Car by Bernd Maylander.
