The NTT IndyCar Series announced on Thursday that Road America in Wisconsin will host a doubleheader race weekend from July 9-12  after confirming that changes have been made to the 2020 schedule due to the impact of COVID 19.

The NTT IndyCar Series was due to go to Road America following the season opening Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway which takes place on June 6 without fans.

The new schedule means that the REV Group Grand Prix of Road America presented by AMR doubleheader is set to take place the week after the NTT IndyCar Series first of three trips to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 5 which is expected to be held with fans.

Officials at Road America have confirmed that the 640 acre circuit will host the doubleheader weekend with race fans in attendance.

Mike Kertscher, President and General Manager of Road America confirmed the news while also revealing that First Responders, such as police officers, firefighters and EMS staff will have free entry to the race with a valid ID.

Kertscher said:

“We’re set for a can’t-miss motorsports doubleheader at America’s National Park of Speed as we pay tribute to America’s First Responders, Police, Fire, and EMS at the REV Group Grand Prix Presented by AMR all weekend with FREE admission at the gate with valid ID. “Our vast 640-acre outdoor facility is widely regarded as ‘the safest place to watch a race’ because fans are not dedicated to a seat and can roam freely around the property to find their favorite viewing location. We’ve also added more hand sanitizing stations while partnering with local brands such as Guy & O’Neill to supply us with disinfecting wipes for use in high-touch common areas, and CTECH Manufacturing to install polycarbonate sneeze guards at various locations. We also offer Print at Home ticketing, so fans can enjoy a contactless experience at the gates. Simply buy, print, scan, enter, and enjoy America’s National Park of Speed. Above all else, we appreciate everyone’s support and flexibility as we made schedule adjustments caused by COVID-19. We also extend our thanks to INDYCAR for embracing this new doubleheader schedule to give our fans and our frontline heroes a memorable experience that they have patiently been waiting for.”
