The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg set pace in the final free practice session ahead of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Hamilton set the pace with a 1m 25.624s ending the session just 0.176s ahead of Rosberg. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was third fastest just ahead of Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso.
Vettel’s Ferrari team mate Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest just ahead of Max Verstappen in the second Toro Rosso following a great morning for the Italian team when you consider they are using last years Ferrari power unit. Verstappen ended the session just ahead of Valtteri Bottas with Daniel Ricciardo in eighth with Felipe Massa in the second FW38 in ninth place.
The Sahara Force India of Sergio Perez rounded out the top ten just ahead of the McLaren Honda pairing of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button in 11th and 12th place respectively.
Daniil Kvyat was 13th fastest for Red Bull Racing ending the session just ahead of Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson. The Renault Sport F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen was 15th fastest, the Dane ended FP3 just ahead of the Sahara Force India of Nico Hulkenberg.
Jolyon Palmer in the second Renault was 17th fastest ahead of the Haas F1 Team duo of Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean. The American outfit did a great job to get Grosjean back on track as early in the session Manor Racing’s Rio Haryanto collided with the Frenchman as he left his garage and as Grosjean was coming down the pit-lane.
Felipe Nasr was 20th for the Sauber F1 Team while Manor Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein who had been extremely impressive in the opening part of the session ended up in 21st place while Rio Haryanto following his clash with Grosjean rounded out the order in 22nd place.
