The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team dominated the second Free Practice session on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix however it was Nico Rosberg’s turn to lead the way ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton. The German beat Hamilton to P1 by 0.138s while the Sahara Force India Formula One Team’s Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez ended the session in third place 0.627s behind Rosberg making it a Mercedes powered 1,2,3.
Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo was fourth fastest just ahead of his former team mate, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel with Daniil Kvyat in sixth place in the second Red Bull. Kimi Raikkonen was seventh fastest for Ferrari ending the day just ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the second Force India.
McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso did a fantastic job for the Woking based outfit as he ended the day in ninth place just ahead of the Mercedes powered Lotus of Pastor Maldonado. who rounded out the top ten.
Valtteri Bottas was 11th fastest for the Williams team as he heads into this weekend’s race looking to fend off the challenge of fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen who is just one point behind him in the race for fourth place in the championship. Felipe Massa in the second Williams was 12th fastest.
Max Verstappen was 13th fastest in his Toro Rosso ending the day just ahead of team mate Carlos Sainz with the Lotus F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean in 15th place.
Jenson Button in the second McLaren Honda was 16th fastest just ahead of the Sauber pairing of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson while Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi rounded out the order in 19th and 20th place respectively.
