Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Nico Rosberg set the fastest time in the opening practice session for Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix ending the morning just ahead of team mate and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Kimi Raikkonen on the Soft tyre set the third fastest time for Scuderia Ferrari with the Iceman ending the session just ahead of Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat.
Nico Hulkenberg was fifth fastest for the Sahara Force India Formula One Team setting a fastest time time of 1m 34.601s ending the session just ahead of Carlos Sainz.
Max Verstappen was seventh fastest in the second Toro Rosso ending the morning with a 1m 34.860s with the Haas F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean doing a solid job to end his session in ninth place in the VF16 just ahead of Felipe Massa who rounded out the top ten with a 1m 35.006s for the Williams Martini Racing Team.
Sebastian Vettel was 11th fastest in the second Ferrari ending up just ahead of Valtteri Bottas in the Williams with Esteban Gutierrez ending his session in 13th place for the Haas F1 Team.
Following an impressive start to his session which saw him up in third place for a time, Jenson Button ended the morning in 14th place for McLaren Honda just ahead of his former team mate Kevin Magnussen in the Renault RS16.
Marcus Ericsson was 16th fastest for the Sauber F1 Team ending Free Practice just ahead of Manor Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein.
Stoffel Vandoorne who makes his F1 debut for McLaren Honda this weekend in place of the injured Fernando Alonso set the 18th fastest time with a 1m 36.392s just ahead of Felipe Nasr in the second Sauber.
Jolyon Palmer was 20th for the Renault Sport F1 Team just ahead of Alfonso Celis who was driving the Force India in place of Sergio Perez, Checo will be back in the car this afternoon.
Rio Haryanto rounded out the order in 22nd place for Manor Racing.
