Mercedes Nico Rosbeg is the new Formula One world champion.
The German who went into the final race of the year, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a 12 point lead in the championship started the race from second place behond team mate and championship rival Lewis Hamilton.
Following a greaton on track battle Rosberg claimed his first championship with second place finish.
Sebastian Vettel ended the race on the podium in third place just ahead of Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo.
Kimi Raikkonen finished the race in sixth place. Nico Hulkenberg in his last race for Force India ended the race in seventh place with Sergio Perez eighth.
In his last race before retiring from F1, Felipe Massa ended the event in ninth place while Fernando Alonso rounded out the top ten.
Romain Grosjean was 11th just ahead of his team mate Esteban Gutierrez while Esteban Ocon ended his last race with Manor in 13th place.
Pascal Wehrlein was 14th just ahead of Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr. Jolyon Palmer rounded out the order in 17th place.
Jenson Button retired from his final race in Formula One following a suspected brake failure. Both Toro Roso drivers retired from the race as did the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen.
