Arrow McLaren had a very busy off-season in 2022 ahead of the 2023 season, expanding to a three-car full-time program in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
Alexander Rossi arrived at the team over the winter, as did his Andretti Autosport race strategist, Brian Barnhart. The 2023 season got off to a great start for the 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner, who finished the race in fourth place.
The Californian had tough races in Texas, the first oval event of the 2023 season, and the following race, his home race, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, where he racked up a pair of 22nd-place finishes. At the Grand Prix of Alabama, Rossi finished the race inside the top ten in eighth place.
May got off to a great start for Alexander Rossi as he scored his maiden Arrow McLaren and Chevrolet NTT INDYCAR SERIES podium as he ended the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the IMS road course as he came home in third place and speaking following the race he commented saying:
“To get three cars in the top five is nearly impossible these days. Arrow McLaren has done a phenomenal job all year. You can’t talk enough about how challenging it is to add a car in the off-season, and we’ve done it with relative apparent ease. I know there’s a lot of work behind the scenes, but I’m really proud to get the first podium for the team and the first one as a part of Team Chevy. It was a good day. We’ve had really strong pace on race days, we just haven’t gotten the results that we feel like we deserve. We’re missing a little bit on qualifying days, but the pieces are coming together and I’ve got an awesome team and awesome teammates around me.”
Rossi had a solid Indianapolis 500 as he ended the race in fifth and followed this up a week later with a second, fifth place finish on the streets of Detroit.
At the Sonsio Grand Prix of Road America last time out, Rossi came home in tenth place and heads to the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar course next weekend in seventh place in the championship on 196 points.
Brian Barnhart has been a great addition to Arrow McLaren as their General Manager and has worked extremely well with the technical team to move the team forward it has shown as Pato O’Ward is fourth in the championship on 226 points, Alexander Rossi in seventh on 196 points, while Felix Rosenqvist is in 12th place with 158 points.
