Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda has closed the gap in the race for the championship to just 26 points with two races to go.

Starting Saturday night’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park from second place on the grid and finished where he started.

Speaking following the race, Rossi said:

Every weekend we just have to try and beat Scott (Dixon). Will (Power) was amazing today, so congrats to him. I’m a little lost for words. I’m not sure how we made that happen today, that’s unbelievable. I wasn’t full throttle at all for the last 70 laps. It was a huge ask when Rob (Edwards, race strategist) came over the radio and told me the fuel number. I was like, ‘Here we go again.’ I couldn’t have done it without a great NAPA Andretti Honda. I don’t know that we had enough for Will, even if it was a flat-out race to the finish. But the important thing is we beat Scott and closed the (points) gap a little bit.”

Zach Veach in the No.26 Group 1001 Honda had a great event as he came home in fifth place having started the race from 16th and speaking following the event he said:

“I really wish we could go back to St. Petersburg right now and start this season over. I’ve got to give credit to my Group 1001 guys and, of course, my Andretti Autosport teammates. Those guys have helped me so much this year, just teaching me little by little. It’s finally starting to come together and I’m just so thankful for that.”

Marco Andretti in the No.98 MilitaryToMotorsports Honda finished the race in 14th place.

Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda was left disappointed as a mechanical issue ended his night early and speaking following the race he said:

Really bummed to end the race from the garages. We had a problem with fuel pressure – the car just shut off on the frontstraight and we weren’t able to recover. It’s a shame because we were really making the No. 28 DHL Honda fly. The track just kept getting more and more grip and we were able to get more aggressive. We were just getting into the mix, the car was coming to us. We were going to fight Will (Power) for the win at the end.”
