Series points leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 NTT DATA Honda ended the session in third place for Chip Ganassi Racing just ahead of his team mate Tony Kanaan in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda.
Josef Newgarden in the No.2 PPG Automotive Refinish machine for Team Penske was the fastest Chevrolet driver in fifth place, the Tennessee native finished the session just ahead of his team mate and reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud in the No.1 Menards Chevrolet.
Ryan Hunter Reay was seventh fastest in the No.28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport ending the session just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda.
Graham Rahal was ninth fastest in the No.15 Steak N’Shake Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing ending the session just ahead of Helio Castroneves in the No.3 Hitachi Chevrolet who spun out on track. The Brazilian rounded out the top ten.
Marco Andretti who received a pit-lane violation ended the session in 11th place place for Andretti Autosport just ahead of Charlie Kimball in the No.83 Tresiba® Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing. Spencer Pigot was 13th fastest in the No.20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing.
Ed Jones was 14th fastest for Dale Coyne Racing in the No.19 Boy Scouts of America Honda ending the session just ahead of Mikhail Aleshin in the No.7 Lucas Oil Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, the Russian brought out the red flag towards the end of the session after losing the car going into Turns 11 and 12 and hitting the tire wall.
Esteban Gutierrez in the No.18 Unifin Honda for Dale Coyne Racing ended the session in 16th place just ahead of Chip Ganassi Racing’s Max Chilton in the No.8 Gallagher Honda. Conor Daly in the No.4 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet ended the session in 18th place for AJ Foyt Racing.
Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet ended the session in 19th place after running out of fuel on track early in the session.
JR Hildebrand in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet was 20th for Ed Carpenter Racing while Carlos Munoz rounded out the order for AJ Foyt Racing in the No.14 ABC Supply Co Chevrolet.
