Verizon IndyCar Series driver and 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi has been nominated for a 2016 ESPY Award in the Best Driver category.
Rossi became only the tenth IndyCar rookie in history to win the Indianapolis 500 with the last rookie to take victory at the Brickyard being Helio Castroneves who is now a veteran of the race having won at his first attempt in 2001.
Rossi also became the first America rookie to win the Indy 500 since Louis Meyer took victory in 1928. Speaking about his nomination, Rossi commented by saying:
It is such a huge honor to be nominated for Best Driver at the ESPYS this year, It will be a pleasure to spend an evening with such an exceptional group of athletes who have all accomplished something pretty incredible. I very much look forward to being able to represent and share my passion for the Verizon IndyCar Series next month.

Rossi is joined in the Best Driver category by reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon.
