Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA AUTO Parts Honda heads into the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series championship deciding Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca just 41 points behind leader Josef Newgarden.
The 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner has scored two wins, two pole positions, eleven top five and thirteen top ten finishes.
Rossi took victory at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and the the REV Group Grand Prix of Road America.
Speaking following his third place finish in Portland last time out, Rissi said:
t is not that I wanted more, I just wanted less for (Josef Newgarden). The No. 27 NAPA Andretti Honda boys did a good job. We maximized what we had. I don’t think we had a race-winning car today, unfortunately. Starting in seventh and finishing on the podium is a good day. We finished in front of our championship rival. It will be pretty intense in California, but I am looking forward to it.”
In order to win the championship Rossi has to win the race and hope that Josef Newgarden finishes outside the top four.
