It’s official former Manor Racing F1 Team test and reserve driver Alexander Rossi will make his Verizon IndyCar Series debut in 2016 as he will drive the No.98 Andretti Autosport Honda.
It was announced last week that Bryan Herta Autosport had merged with Andretti Autosport giving Michael Andretti a four car full time team for the 2016 season with BHA engineers moving across with the No,98 Honda.
Rossi joins his former Manor Racing team mate Max Chilton in the Verizon IndyCar Series as Chilton has been announced as a Chip Ganassi Racing Team.
Speaking about his new drive, Rossi commented by saying:
I’m very much looking forward to making my IndyCar Series debut this season and am proud to be racing with a team of such high calibre and pedigree as that of Andretti Autosport, As a racer through and through, I cannot wait to get started; our goal is to be competitive immediately at the first race in St. Petersburg.
Speaking about Rossi’s appointment at the team Andretti Autosport CEO Michael Andretti commented by saying:
We’re really excited to have Alexander join the team, His credentials speak for his ability and we’re confident he’ll transition seamlessly into IndyCar racing. It’s neat to have the last three American F1 drivers in 25 years to be under one roof, I think it speaks to the level of talent we have.
Bryan Herta who will be on the pit-wall this season for the No.98 commented by saying:
Personally, I’m really pleased at how well all these pieces have come into place for this group, Adding Alexander as a driver is going from strength to strength for us. We can’t wait to get on track together and start our preparation for the 2016 season.
It is expected that Rossi will get his first chance to drive the No.98 Honda at a test later this week.
