Alexander Rossi heads into his second Verizon IndyCar Series season off the back of an incredible debut last year which saw the American make history winning the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil last May.

Rossi also secured the Sunoco Rookie of the year award. Rossi who drives for Andretti Herta Autosport hit the ground running when it came to oval racing however for 2017 he aims to improve his performances on road and street circuits starting with the season opening Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg is just over two weeks time.

Speaking to IndyCar.com, Rossi commented by saying:

Going into 2017 we have a lot higher expectations, and we’ve made a big push this offseason to rectify a lot of the things that didn’t go well. “And so, obviously I’m looking forward to going back to Indianapolis in May, but by the same token, I’m just as excited about all the other races because I feel like we have a pretty big point to prove, and road and street courses, which were supposed to be my strong suit coming into INDYCAR, they were not, and ovals were.

Rossi, who will once again run with NAPA Auto Parts as a primary sponsor for select events this season went on to say:

I personally feel that I have a lot to prove on road and street tracks and look forward to getting started. Oh, (a fast start is) very important. “Racing is momentum and confidence and all of the adjectives that relate to those things. If you are on the back foot from Day 1, you’re always playing catch-up. We saw it a little bit with Will (Power) last year. He obviously is more than capable of winning championships but was always playing catch-up from St. Pete (after missing the race). It’s very important to come out of the box strong.

Rossi has a new team mate this year with the arrival of fellow former Formula One drover Takuma Sato who joins Andretti Autosport from AJ Foyt Racing replacing Carlos Munoz in the No.26 Honda.

Rossi will also continue to have Ryan Hunter Reay and Marco Andretti with him at the team in 2017.

The 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season kicks off with the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg which takes place from March 10-12, for more information or to book tickets visit – http://gpstpete.com/
