McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Carlos Sainz is an appealing proposition for 2019 if he is free to join the Woking based outfit.
Speaking at last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix prior to the announcement that Daniel Ricciardo will join the Renault Sport F1 Team in 2019, Brown said that they would consider Sainz and says that team believe that Carlos is an excellent driver and he is on the shortlist if McLaren are looking for a new driver.
Fernando Alonso is using the summer break to decide where his future lies as his contract is up at the end of the season.
Paddock Eye understands that a move to IndyCar is still on the cards for Fernando Alonso and that an announcement about the formation of a full-time IndyCar team in partnership with Andretti Autosport is imminent.
While many have suggested that time is running out for McLaren to make the move to IndyCar, it was in December 2017 when Carlin Racing announced that they were entering the series in 2018 so McLaren still have plenty of time to make an announcement and prepare for the 2019 IndyCar Series.
