The Japanese driver in the No.30 MiJack/Panasonic Honda set a fastest time of 00:58.6777s ending the session just ahead of defending series champion Josef Newgarden in the No.1 Hitachi Chevrolet who crashed right at the end of the session.

Indianapolis 500 winner Will Power in the No.12 Verizon Chevrolet was third fastest just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda.

Spencer Pigot had a strong session in the No. 21 Preferred Freezer Services Chevrolet ending the morning in fifth.

Verizon IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda set the sixth fadtest time for Chip Ganassi Racing just ahead of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Robert Wickens who improved to seventh before crashing at the end of the session.

Graham Rahal in the No.15 Rosseau Metal Honda was eighth for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing while Ryan Hunter Reay in the No.28 DHL Honda was ninth.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ed Jones in the No.10 NTT DATA Honda rounded out the top ten.

Marco Andretti in the No.98 Oberto Honda was 11th just ahead of Sebastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 DXC Technology Team Penske Chevrolet.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Electronics Honda was 14th fastest with a time of 00:59.3569s ending the session just ahead of Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach in the No.26 Relay Group One Thousand One Honda.

AJ Foyt Racing’s Tony Kanaan in the No.14 ABC Supply Chevrolet was 16th just ahead of Carlin Racing’s Max Chilton in the No.59 Gallagher Chevrolet.

Jordan King was 18th just ahead of Matheus Matt Leist and Harding Racing’s Conor Daly in the No.88 Harding Group Chevrolet.

Zachary Claman DeMelo in the No.19 Paysafe Honda was 21st just ahead of Juncos Racing’s Rene Binder while Charlie Kimball in the No.23 NovoNordisk/Diabetes Canada Chevrolet for Carlin Racing rounded out the order.
