Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team co-owner Bobby Rahal says he expects to retain Takuma Sato next season.
Sato, who returned to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing this year had an extremely strong event last time out as IndyCar returned to Portland, winning the race. Rahal says that discussions with the 2017 Indianapolis 500 winner are heading in a positive direction.
Rahal has also confirmed that the Brownsberg outfit’s plan to expand to a three car operation in 2019 are going well and Paddock Eye understands that Oriol Servia who drove for the team at the Indianapolis 500 in May is one of a number of drivers in the frame for the third seat.
A McLaren/Rahal partnership is now unlikely to materialize with the Woking based outfit looking to restart their 2017 Indianapolis 500 partnership with Micheal Andretti’s team on a full-time programme for 2019 with Fernando Alonso.
In relation to Takuma Sato, he and Graham Rahal work well together and if it isn’t broken there is no need to fix it.
