The Sauber Formula One team and Honda Racing confirmed on Thursday evening ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix that their planned technical partnership which was due to start in 2018 has been cancelled.
Speaking about the announcement, Sauber F1 Team Principal Frederic Vasseur commented by saying:
It is very unfortunate that we have to discontinue the planned collaboration with Honda at this stage. However, this decision has been made for strategic reasons, and with the best intent for the future of the Sauber F1 Team in mind. We would like to thank Honda for their collaboration, and wish them all the best for their future in Formula One.
The Swiss based outfit will announce their 2018 engine partner at a later date.
