Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Sam Schmidt celebrates his Birthday today. Schmidt owns the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Verizon IndyCar Series team along with Ric Peterson.
On January 6, 2000, while testing an IndyCar at the Walt Disney World Speedway Schmidt had a huge accident and as a result is a quadriplegic.
Schmidt hasn’t let the accident define his life and has done a fantastic job along with his sponsors to turn Schmidt Peterson Motorsports into a front running team in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
The team who are powered by Honda field James Hinchcliffe, the Mayor of HinchTown and up until this week, Mikhail Aleshin.
Hinchcliffe has been extremely successful during his three years with the team and has built a strong relationship with Schmidt and Ric Peterson which has helped him on track.
Schmidt is expected to field two full-time cars in the Verizon IndyCar Series once again in 2018 with the Indiana based outfit close to agreeing an new contract with Hinch.
Schmidt has been successful off track too, the Nevada native along with team partner Arrow Electronics has developed a semi autonomous Chevrolet Corvette dubbed SAM.
