Schmidt Peterson Motorsports co-owner Sam Schmidt has revealed that Tony Kanaan’s representatives have contacted him about the possibility of driving the No.7 Honda in 2018.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline at Gateway Motorsports Park, Schmidt confirmed that Kanaan is one of several drivers interested in the drive alongside James Hinchcliffe.
Kanaan confirmed last weekend at the ABC Supply 500 that he is a free agent at the end of the season and will definitely be in the Verizon IndyCar Series full-time in 2018.
Paddock Eye understands that Arrow Electronics, the promary sponsor to James Hinchcliffe’s No.5 are keen to expand their involvement with the team.
James Hinchcliffe is out of contract at the end of the season but it is believed that the team are close to retaining the Mayor of HinchTown.
The driver market should become clearer once Andretti Autosport owner Michael Andretti confirms what engines his team will use in 2018.
