Mick Schumacher, the son of Formula One legend and seven time champion Michael Schumacher made his Formula One debut with Ferrari, his dad’s old team on Tuesday as the two day post Bahrain Grand Prix Pirelli tyre test at the Sakhir circuit.
Mick was extremely consistent with his lap times ending the day in second place behind Max Verstappen’s Red Bull. Schumacher set a fastest time of 01:29.976s completing 56 laps and speaking following the session, he said:
I really enjoyed today. It felt like home in the garage from the very first moment with a lot of people that know me since I was very young. The SF90 is incredible because of the power it has, but it is also smooth to drive, and that’s why I enjoyed myself so much. I was impressed by the braking power an F1 car has. It seemed to me you could brake later and later and the car would have made the turn anyway. I would like to say thank you Ferrari for this incredible opportunity and I’m looking forward to test the Alfa Romeo tomorrow.
Mick Schumacher’s pace with Ferrari comes amid reports from the Express newspaper in the UK who report stories from Italy claiming that Sebastian Vettel could be on his way of Ferrari to be replaced by Schumacher alongside Charles Leclerc who not only took pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend but also scored his first Formula One podium finishes in third place behind Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
Schumacher will be back in action for the day of testing on Wednesday with Alfa Romeo Racing.
