Meyer Shank Racing team co owner Mike Shank says that he hopes to announce details of the team’s new partners in the coming weeks.
It was announced on Tuesday that Meyer Shank Racing will expand to a two car NTT IndyCar Series programme on a partial schedule in 2021 with Helio Castroneves joining Jack Harvey for six races.
Castroneves will compete at Barber Motorsports Park, the Long Beach Grand Prix, the Indy 500, Portland, the Harvest Grand Prix and the season ending Firestone Grand Prix of Laguna Seca.
Jack Harvey will continue in the No.60 AutoNation Sirius XM Honda full-time in 2021 and Shank confirmed on Tuesday that the team plan to expand the second car to ten races in 2022 with a potential full-time programme in the pipeline in 2023.
The team recently broke ground on a new purpose built 40,000sq ft race shop that will house both their IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and NTT IndyCar Series teams.
MSR’s expansion is great news for the NTT IndyCar Series and shows how strong the sport is despite the ongoing COVID-19 Global pandemic.
Shank recently announced investment from Luberty Media, owners of Formula One and speaking following Tuesday’s news, Mike Shank said:
We’re really excited to have Helio come onboard with us next year,” said Mike Shank. “The idea to start off with six races for the second IndyCar was another strategic plan. As I’ve always said in the past, we will never bite off more than we can chew. It’s always been one of our goals to expand the IndyCar program, and this is the best way that we can start that. Of course the goal is to have two full-season cars.”
