Arrow McLaren’s Nolan Siegel in the No.6 NTT DATA Chevrolet says he has learned a lot from his short time with the team.
Speaking to Paddock Eye after qualifying sixth for Sunday’s Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park.
It was a good day for us! We’ve been strong all weekend. I don’t think we expected to be where we were in qualifying.
Siegel went to say that it is a nice feeling to have outqualified where they thought they were going to be.
Everything was calm and executed well.
Speaking about what it feels like to be racing for McLaren in INDYCAR, Siegel says it feels terrific to carry the McLaren name.
It’s a big responsibility, but it is also an honor. It brings a lot of good things with it. We have some great people here and a great brand name behind us. I couldn’t be happier with the situation I am in.
We asked Nolan what it is like working with Tony Kanaan, to which he said:
There is such a wealth of knowledge and experience in this team with Pato, Christian, Tony and Kyle Larson for the 500. It is a great environment. We are all trying our best to help each other get better.
Siegel admitted that it can be a challenge adjusting to a team the size of Arrow McLaren, given that it is something that he has never experienced in his career. He says that Team Principal Tony Kanaan has been great with that.
Siegel said it is really cool that Kyle Larson will join the team again for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing later this month. Although he is new to INDYCAR, he brings a completely different perspective.
Siegel says that here at Barber Motorsports Park, it is a great place to qualify but not the best to race at but that Roas America is the opposite in that it is tricky to qualify at but great to race at.
