Ed Carpenter Racing’s Josef Newgarden in the No.21 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet had a strong day in Watkins Glen on Friday. Newgarden who is in fifth place in the series points standings with two races to go and speaking following the day of action Newgarden commented by saying:
It was a productive day. It was nice to have a two-hour practice session at the end and work through several things. We still have a little speed to find and a bit more work to do. We’ve got a good car, I think we can push it into the top five and possibly the top three tomorrow. That’s our priority right now. All hands are on deck trying to figure out exactly what we need. We’ll get after qualifying tomorrow, then see how we do in the race.
Spencer Pigot, who it was confirmed this morning will have Samsung as a sponsor for the final two races of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season had a good day.
Pigot finished the day with the 13th fastest combined time with a fastest time of 01:23.8604s and speaking following the day of action he commented by saying:
We had a pretty good day today. Especially in that second session, we seemed to make a lot of improvements. As always, it’s extremely tight and you have to fight so hard for every tenth. I think we can improve more tomorrow and we have a few things to work on so we can hopefully find some more time. The car was great. I can’t thank Samsung, Fuzzy’s Vodka, Rising Star Racing, and Mockett enough for their support.
