Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe in the No.5 Arrow Honda started today’s ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway from sixth place and came home with a tenth place finish. During the race Hinch ran as high a four in the early stages of the race.

During his third stop the No.5 crew noticed that Hinchcliffe’s engine cover was loose so they tired to rectify this using Bear Bond however this solution didn’t last too long once Hinch got back up to speed causing the Canadian to suffer significant drag in the car and as a result he dropped down the order.

On lap 158 however when a caution came out following Simon Pagenaud’s crash the No.5 crew were able to fix the problem with the engine cover and Hinchcliffe recovered to finish the race in tenth place. On Saturday he returns along with his rivals to Texas Motor Speedway for the resumption of the Firestone 600 which he is leading.

Speaking following Monday’s race, the Mayor of HinchTown commented by saying:

Solid top-10 for the No. 5 ARROW Electronics Schmidt Peterson Motorsports car today. Certainly not the result we were hoping for after qualifying but if you heard the whole story if the race you would understand why we were pretty pleased with that. We had a top-six run going for the entire first half of the race and then we had a piece of bodywork start separating on the engine cover. It was not only creating a drag it was changing the handling of the car pretty quick and we went super lose during the last four laps of that fourth or fifth stint. So we came in and tried to make some repairs the bodywork, but any time you are chucking Bondo onto a car during a pit stop in a race you know things have gone pretty south. But, the guys did a great job to kind of get that fixed and we played some strategy a little bit there to stop early and have a shorter last stop than everyone else when that yellow came out. Like I said not the true pace of the car certainly but from where we were on lap 135 I think we are pretty happy with a top-10. I also need to congratulate my team-mate Mikhail on a great race today and a well deserved second place finish.
