Defending NTT IndyCar Series champion Josef Newgarden says that the strategy calls in the iRacing Challenge are similar to the ones that are made in the real world. Speaking to Paddock Eye during a video conference call on Friday the Team Penske driver said that he is happy to have his engineer in his ear as he would on a normal race weekend.
Newgarden will pilot the No.1 Hitachi Chevrolet in Saturday’s NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge Firestone 175 at Twin Ring Motegi.
The Tennessee native was joined on the call by five time series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing who said that he is just doing the iRacing Challenge for fun and said that he wouldn’t have his engineer Chris Simmons in his ear.
Helio Castroneves who is competing in his first NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge event driving the No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet for Team Penske said he has been working with his Acura Team Penske engineers for Saturday’s race at Twin Ring Motegi.
