Takuma Sato in the No.14 ABC Supply AJ Foyt Racing Honda had an extremely strong start to the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg as the Japanese driver who started the race from 10th place worked his way through the chaos to end the race in sixth place.
Speaking following the race, Sato stated:
I have good memories from St. Pete. We had a difficult time in qualifying, but the boys and the engineers did a fantastic job to bring the car back and we had a very strong race pace. The ABC Supply team did a great job in the pits and I’m happy we were able to come back twice.
The Honda powered team were fast all weekend with both the No.14 and the No.41 entries. Jack Hawksworth in the No.41 ABC Supply AJ Foyt Racing Honda started the race from ninth place on the grid and in the race he just missed out on a top ten place as he ended the race in 11th place just behind Chip Ganassi Racing’s Charlie Kimball.
Speaking following the race, Hawksworth commented saying:
We struggled for pace throughout the race but we were in the ballpark on strategy. On that one restart I lost some positions with the congestion in Turn 1, and then it stacked up in front of me in Turn 4 and I had nowhere to go. We had to replace the rear wing. but I’m glad we were able to finish 11th.
