Former Williams Martini Racing Team technical director Pat Symonds has joined the Sky Sports F1 team ahead of the start of the 2017 Formula One season.
Symonds who left Williams in December following three years with the Grove based outfit will work with Sky Sports F1 for select races in 2017 providing expert analysis and technical insight to the new regulations in what is sure to be one of the most exciting F1 seasons in many years.
Speaking about the appointment of Symonds, Sky Sports Head of F1, Martin Turner commented by saying:
Pat will make a brilliant addition to our team, bringing a wealth of experience to Sky Sports F1. His knowledge, expertise and passion will add another dimension to our analysis and enhance the viewing experience for fans as they seek to understand the new cars and regulations. In this era of Formula 1 there is no-one better to explain it.
Symonds first race will be the season opening Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit and speaking about he new role, the former technical director stated:
I have always been impressed with the quality and innovation of Sky’s F1 coverage. It feels like a really exciting time to join the team ahead of such an unpredictable season and with all races being shown in UHD, it will be even more visually dramatic at every turn.
