Verizon IndyCar Series championship leader Josef Newgarden and the rest of Team Penske conducted a valuable pre race test at Sonoma Raceway on Thursday.
Newgarden heads into next weekend’s 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series championship deciding GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma with a three point lead in the championship over Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon.
Newgarden aaid following the test that the team can be happy with the progress they made during the five hour test which was impacted by poor weather in the morning.
The Tennessee native is not taking anything for granted and knows that his three point lead in the championship is anything but secure.
Newgarden whose best finish at Sonoma is sixth says the team are just focused on winning the race and doing the best job they can do to ensure they win the championship.
Newgarden and Team Penske will join the rest of the Verizon IndyCar series field at a promoter test at Sonoma Raceway on September 14 prior to the race.
