The Verizon IndyCar Series teams, fresh from the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach last weekend are at the Texas Motor Speedway this week for an open test at the freshly repaved oval.

The test which gets underway on Wednesday will give the drivers and teams the opportunity to collect some valuable data about the feel and characteristics of the new track surface.

On Monday, Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage took to Twitter to say:

Props to SMI engineer Steve Swift & for reprofiile/new asphalt success! Also team hard work!

While the race at Texas doesn’t take place until until June 10, the test gives the teams and drivers the perfect opportunity to prepare to for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix which takes place at Phoenix International Raceway at the end of this month.
