Sunday, 6th October 2013, started out like any other INDYCAR SERIES race day for three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and four-time INDYCAR SERIES champion Dario Franchitti.

The Scot, driver the No.10 T-Mobile Chip Ganassi Racing crashed heavily on the final lap of the race in Houston, Texas, the final race of the season.

The crash took place after Takuma Sato ran wide on to marbles and collided with Franchitti.

Franchitti suffered a concussion, fractures to his spine and ankle.

Franchitti was forced to retire from the NTT INDYCAR SERIES however, today he is still a huge part of the part series as he is a driver advisor to Chip Ganassi Racing and driver coach to Ganassi’s young drivers.
