Three of the top professional tennis players in the world, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have teamed up with ATP to financially support the lowered ranked tennis players who don’t have a regular income during the COVID 19 global pandemic.
Formula One’s big three teams, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull should look at a similar system to help support the smaller teams like RoKIT Williams Racing who earlier this month remortgage their factory.
Formula One teams have had to furlough employees in order to save money. Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull spend millions ever year and they could possibly set up a fund in conjunction with Formula One Management and Liberty Media so if teams like Williams were to enter serious financial difficulties again they will be protected.
The current teams on the grid need to maintain their presence in the sport because they have helped make the sport what it is today.
The NTT IndyCar Series has something similar as owner Roger Penske has ensured that teams have been able to pay off their engine leases and tire lease with Firestone.
