Chip Ganassi Racing’s Jimmie Johnson had an early start on Monday at Texas Motor Speedway as he joined his teammate and six-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon and Ganassi driver coach Dario Franchitti as the trio brought a BMW road car around the TMS oval.
Scott Dixon, the defending NTT IndyCar Series champion and Genesys 300 race winner drove the No.48 American Legion Honda to bed in the setup for Johnson.
Johnson was delighted with how the test went and says that it is the first step in him evaluating a possible entry with Ganassi into next year’s Indianapolis 500 or other oval races such as the double-header at Iowa Speedway next season. Johnson’s teammate Tony Kanaan with whom he shares the No.48 Carvana/American Legion Honda with was also on hand at the test to provide some great insight into how the car runs on an oval.
