Andretti Autosport Chairman and CEO Michael Andretti says that the aim is to James Hinchcliffe back in the NTT IndyCar Series full time in 2021.
The Mayor of HinchTown will compete in three races for Andretti Autosport this year with the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 9, the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 24 and the Texas Indy 600 at Texas Motor Speedway on June 7.
Speaking earlier this week during the press conference to announce James Hinchcliffe’s return to the his team, Andretti Autosport Chairman and CEO Michael Andretti said that they have spoken on numerous occasions about the Canadian returning to the team and he hopes to makes to make it a long term arrangement.
Hinchcliffe won three races for the Andretti Autosport between 2012 and 2014 before moving on to pastures new but the Oakville native has described his return to Andretti like coming home.
Hinch made the comment that Andretti’s HQ along with his title sponsor Geneyes are within a mile radius of his home in Indianapolis making his commute to work very easy.
Paddock Eye understands that the Mayor of HinchTown will get his first opportunity to drive the No.29 Genesys Homda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open test at the end of April but you can be sure that he will also be attending some races prior to that with the team.
