Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No.84 Carvana Legacy Motor Club Chevrolet ZL1 drove a brilliant race on his NASCAR Cup Series return at the Daytona 500 on Sunday only to retire from the race.

Johnson was extremely competitive throughout the car but was caught up in a late race incident and speaking following the race, Johnson said:

All in all, just a great day. “I hate that we didn’t get to the finish line, but we got a lot closer than I thought. If I would have taken a bet before the race started, I would have thought some issues [would happen] earlier than that, but we had a great day.

Johnson went on to say:

“The Carvana car was awesome. Very, very proud of this race team. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the finish line.”

The 65th Daytona 500 was won by JTG-Daugherty Racing driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr who claimed his first Cup Series win for 199 starts.
