The 2019 NTT IndyCar Series championship will decided in the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend and with four drivers in contention for the title here is how it needs to play out.
Championship leader Josef Newgarden of Team Penske wins the championship if he finishes the race in fourth place or higher regardless of happens.
Alexander Rossi in the No.27 NAPA Auto Parts Honda and Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Chevrolet for Team Penske can win the championship if they win the race and Josef Newgarden finishes in sixth place or worse.
Pagenaud and Rossi could also win the championship if they win the race and score two or more bonus points then Newgarden who would be fifth or lower.
Defending NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon in the No.9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing has a tough challenge on his hands.
In order for the Iceman to win his sixth title he needs to win the race and for Newgarden to finish in 23rd place or lower. Dixon also has to outscore Pagenaud and Rossi and score all bonus points necessary.
In the event of a tie breaker, Dixon would win against Pagenaud and Rossi however in the event of tie breaker situation with Newgarden he wins any as he has the most number of wins.
