IndyCar legend Rick Mears believes that the new series car which was introduced this year will suit Fernando Alonso as he attempts to win the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren in May. Mears, the four time Indianapolis 500 winner believes that Alonso is similar to AJ Foyt, Parnelli Jones and Mario Andretti in that he can succeed in any car he drives.

The Spaniard who has retired from Formula One is currently leading the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship points standings for Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Mears, who is now a driver coach for Team Penske believes that the new Dallara car will suit Alonso’s driving style. The Spaniard and McLaren will begin their Indianapolis 500 preparations in April.

McLaren will team up with Chevrolet for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.
