The 2017 World Rally Championship will have a completely different look. This year sees a total overhaul of the regulations relating to car designs.
The new cars are lighter, wider with more aerodynamic freedom. The cars this year are more powerful with 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder turbo engine with the restrictors going from 33mm to 36mm which means that the cars overall bhp (brake horse power) increases from 310bhp to 360bhp.
The chassis is 10 kilos lighter than last year with the front splitter 60mm further forward than last year while the rear diffuser is 30mm longer than 2016.
Kris Meeke who will drive the Citroen C3 for the Abu Dhabi Total World Rally Team commented on the new cars by saying:
t’s quite a big step from 2016. When you drive them in anger, they’re a different beast; you really have to be on your game, every metre, to keep on top of them.
