The dream of competing in the Verizon IndyCar Series has become a reality for Harding Group and Harding Racing team Mike Harding.
The team, who field Gabby Chaves in the No.88 Chevrolet made their debut in the series last season and were immediately successful in the handful of races they competed in.
The results allowed the team to hire the likes of former Verizon IndyCar Series race director Brian Bernhart who joined the outfit as Team President over the off-season.
Following a strong weekend in their opening race as a full-time Verizon IndyCar Series team at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg where Gabby Chaves started the race from eighth and finished the 110 lap event in 14th place, one of the final pieces of the jigsaw puzzle was put in place this week.
On Thursday, the Harding Racing sign was officially installed above the door on their race race shop at 1255 main street, just down the road from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Team owner Mike Harding tweeted:
The @HardingRacing88 sign is up at our shop and it feels like the last step in our move is done! So honored being located on Main Street, right next to @IMS and @jdouglas4! https://t.co/16pP4LN25w
The next race on the Verizon IndyCar Series calendar is the Phoenix Grand Prix at ISM Raceway.
Speaking following the the opening race of the season at St Pete, Gabby Chaves said:
Long day at the race track. It was a long hard race, but I’m really happy and proud of the Harding Racing guys. We had very good progression throughout the weekend and ended up very competitive from where we started. I thought we had a car to run in the top six or eight all day. Unfortunately, we had an issue with our fuel hose in the first pit stop that set us back. After that we just settled in and tried to have our own race, I thought we had decent pace and I’m very happy with finishing 14th. I’m very much looking forward to the next race.”
